Did you know?

The tune to “Happy Birthday” was written by church organist Mildred Hill as a welcome song for schoolchildren; it was originally published as “Good Morning to All.”

Sometimes...

Akbar’s Dream

Sometimes it is just about how you say the truth...

Once Akbar had a dream that his all teeth except one have fallen down. In the morning he invited all the astrologers and asked them to interpret this dream. All the astrologers sat to interpret that dream. At last they all reached on this conclusion that it meant that - all of his relatives would die before him.

Hearing this Akbar felt very bad and got concerned about his relatives. He sent all the astrologers away without giving anything. He got restless. The whole day passed, but he could not find rest in his mind. In the evening Birbal came. Akbar told his dream to Birbal too and asked him to interpret it.

Birbal thought for a minute and said, "This means Huzoor that you will live very long and much fulfilled life than any of your relatives."   Hearing this Akbar got very pleased and he rewarded him heavily.

Circle of Friends

The latest Airtel advertisement (Har ek friend zaroori hota hai) reminded me of this poem which I had received in my mail many years ago…

Circle of Friends

When I was little,
I used to believe in the concept of one best friend,
And then I started to become a woman.
And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up,
God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your partner.
Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.
Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your children
and their activities.
Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.
One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,'
Another, 'Let's fight together,'
Another, 'Let's walk away together.'

One friend will meet your spiritual need,
Another your shoe fetish,
Another your love for movies,
Another will be with you in your season of confusion,
Another will be your clarifier,
Another the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life,
On whatever the occasion,
On whatever the day,
Or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back,
Or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself .
Those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one friend, but for many, it's wrapped up in several..

Some from your school,
Several from the college years, a couple from old jobs,
Some from your old building, some you just met…
On some days your mother,
On some days your neighbour,
On other days your sister/s,
And on some days your daughter/s…
